Painted while trying to really look at the flowers instead of painting what I thought flowers should look like.
The flowers change constantly when you really pay attention to them. Colours shift. Shapes collapse into shadows and light. Purple suddenly becomes blue. Stems disappear into the background and then return again.
I wanted the painting to stay soft and open rather than overworked — closer to the feeling of standing in front of the flowers than a perfect botanical study.
Painted on stretched canvas. Ready to hang.
