The Clown Who Forgot the Joke

Painted on aluminium foil, which gave the surface a strange mixture of fragility and reflection that I wanted to keep visible.

I liked the contrast between the exaggerated clown face and the awkward, vulnerable body underneath it. He looks cheerful at first, but also slightly uncertain, as if the performance has continued longer than planned.

The painting was built loosely and instinctively. I didn’t want to smooth out the unevenness or strange proportions. The long neck, oversized grin, and rough surface felt more human that way.
