The flowers were painted from observation, but the black lines and splashes were allowed to interrupt everything. I liked the tension between carefully looking and letting the painting misbehave a little.
Some flowers stand clearly forward. Others dissolve into colour and marks.
It felt closer to how gardens actually are — beautiful, crowded, slightly chaotic, impossible to fully organise.
